Liberty Water/Liberty Utilities Requesting Water and Sewer Rate Increases Again!

??????????????????????????????????????????

Liberty Water aka, Liberty Utilities, formerly known as Litchfield Park Service Company (LPSCO) is yet again asking for a rate increase for water and sewer services.  Liberty provides water and sewer services to the Village at Litchfield Park Community, most of Litchfield Park (incorporated and unincorporated areas) and North Goodyear.  On February 28th, 2013, Liberty Water filed their next rate increase with the Arizona Corporation Commission.

Many folks who live in Litchfield Park and North Goodyear remember all too well the Liberty rate increase that was past back in 2010 which just about doubled homeowners water and sewer bills.  More than 500 residents showed up to protest the last rate increase.  You can read the history of that meeting and rate increase here: http://www.azcentral.com/community/swvalley/articles/20100128swv-libertywater0129.html

For details on the proposed rate increase, be sure to review the Public Notice of Hearing on Application for Increases in its Water and Wastewater Utility Service Rates and Charges by Litchfield Park Service Company DBA Liberty Utilities

Also, be sure to attend the public hearing on this matter beginning December 9, 2013 at 10 am in Hearing Room 1 at the Commissioner’s Office – 1200 W Washington St, Phoenix, AZ 85007.  If you cannot attend the meeting, review the Public Notice Hearing Document above for details on how to let your voice and opinion be heard regarding the rate increase.  Written comments can be filed electronically at http://www.azcc.gov/divisions/utilities/forms/publiccommentform2013pdfemail.pdf.

Be sure to reference Docket Number SW-01428A-13-0042 et al.

Waste Management Rate Increase plus New Recycle Options

To All Homeowners in the Village at Litchfield Park…

Keep an eye out for a recent notification sent out from Waste Management regarding a nominal rate increase.  The rate increase will be $0.38 per month bringing your monthly trash and recycle fee up to $25.24.  The new rate goes into effect November 1, 2013.  You can view the letter here – Waste Management Rate Increase and Recycling Options

For those of you who are really into recycling, you will be happy to know that the City of Litchfield Park is taking the next step in the cities recycling evolution.  To encourage residents to recycle more, Waste Management and the city are offering residents some recycling options.

Residents of the Village at Litchfield Park currently have a single 35 gallon recycle container which can be rolled to the curb each week.  (For those of you who have lived in the Village for a while, the 35 gallon container was certainly a step up from the 15 gallon tote containers that had to be carried to the curb each week for pickup).  Although recycling progress has been slow for the city, you will now have the option to have a full sized, 96 gallon recycling container.  Our family currently has 2 – 35 gallon recycle containers that we easily fill each week as a family of four.  The full sized, 96 gallon option is welcome news to us, although I am not happy that Waste Management is charging a onetime $55 dollar fee for the 96 gallon container.  This 96 gallon container size, similar to the size of your large trash container, is pretty much the standard size for most cities for recycling so why is Waste Management charging for it?  There are two additional recycling options, which you can view in the letter from Waste Management – Waste Management Rate Increase and Recycling Options

Be sure to visit the Litchfield Park web page where you can view details of the items that can and can’t be recycled.

Re-Paving Litchfield Rd and Wigwam Blvd Intersection

The Litchfield Road pedestrian underpass project is nearing completion and one of the final steps of the project is re-paving the intersection of Litchfield Road and Wigwam Boulevard.

On Friday, September 20th, the existing asphalt in the intersection will be milled, which will require intermittent lane restrictions through the intersection during work hours, form 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Paving will take place on Saturday, September 21 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  During the paving, Wigwam Boulevard will be closed at the intersection, while Litchfield Road will be narrowed to one lane in each direction.  During the closure Wigwam Boulevard traffic can utilize Indian School Road as a detour.

For more information call the ADOT Project Hotline at 855-712-8530 or email at Projects@azdot.gov.

Litchfield Road pedestrian underpass project update – Traffic signal installation to cause lane restrictions

New traffic signals are scheduled to be installed at the intersection of Litchfield Road and Wigwam Boulevard in September as part of the Litchfield Road pedestrian underpass project.

The signal installation takes place after Labor Day weekend on September 3rd and 4th and will require restrictions on northbound Litchfield Road to safely complete the work.

The schedule is:

•Tuesday, Sept. 3 – Northbound Litchfield Road narrowed to one lane at Wigwam Blvd. from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also, northbound Litchfield Road will be CLOSED for a short period of time during the day for mast arm installation over the roadway.

•Wednesday, Sept. 4 – There will be no traffic signals at the intersection of Litchfield Road and Wigwam Blvd. from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. while the new signals are being wired and installation is being completed. Officers will be on duty to guide traffic through the intersection.

Construction of the underpass, which started in January 2013, is expected to be open to the public in late September.

Storm Damage throughout the Village at Litchfield Park

Downed Tree 2

Litchfield Park Residents:

As you know, the storm that went through Litchfield Park the evening of Monday, August 26th caused considerable damage to the City, the Wigwam Resort and neighboring communities.  We had another storm hit last night, August 28th, causing additional damage throughout the City, including the Village at Litchfield Park.  City landscaping crews continue to work hard to clear City streets and parks of unsafe situations.  LandCare, our HOA contracted landscape company, has also been hard at work cleaning up HOA maintained parcels.  The cleanup is ongoing and will take several days.

To assist residents with the cleanup of your personal property, the Litchfield Park City crews will be providing curbside green waste removal beginning Friday August 30th through Wednesday, September 4th.  Please gather your green waste (small branches, limbs, and small tree trunks) and place them on the curb as soon as you can this week.

No large stumps, building materials or anything other than tree limbs and green waste from the storms will be picked up.  The City will not access personal property to remove tree trunks or oversized limbs.

Another intense storm is in the forecast for this afternoon or early evening, August 29th, so the collection efforts may be extended even further.
